Tony Clothier

PhD, BSc Eng (Civil), CEng, CEnv, MCIWEM

Director

Tony Clothier has a Doctorate in Civil Engineering Hydrology. Driven by the vision of clear skies and clean rivers, he has 23 years of technical experience in hydrology. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and a full member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (MCIWEM).

After graduating as a civil engineer in 1995 he spent a year working in a civil engineering consultancy as a graduate engineer before accepting a position as a senior researcher for the Water Research Commission of South Africa until June 2001. During this time he took the opportunity to further his academic qualifications by registering for a Doctorate of Philosophy in Engineering, which he completed in 2003. His field of research was in the computer modelling of radar rainfields – high resolution space-time modelling of rainfall. After moving to the UK in 2001, he accepted a contract position with the Environment Agency in Frimley as a Development Control engineer for flood risk before moving back into the private engineering sector in 2002, tasked with developing the hydrology department for a medium-sized engineering consultancy. After 4 years of building a highly successful team, he made the decision to form Water Environment Limited, an independent company specialising in a sector which, if current opinion proves correct, will be critical to the world economy in the decades to come as we face the challenges of climate change.

Guy Laister

MSc Eng, BSc Eng (Civil), CEng, CEnv, C.WEM, MCIWEM

Director

Guy Laister has a Masters degree in Civil Engineering (graduated Cum Laude) and has 19 years of technical experience in flood risk, hydrology, hydraulic modelling, drainage, environmental impact assessment, waste management, and air quality. Guy is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (C.WEM) and a full member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (MCIWEM).

After graduating as a civil engineer in 1999, he spent three years working for local government, conducting research into atmospheric dispersion modelling focusing on gas and odour control from landfill sites, during which time he completed a Masters in Engineering. Following work in the waste sector, he sought a fresh challenge in the private sector and spent the next 4 years working in the UK on a range of environmental issues including flood risk, air quality, and environmental impact assessment for projects from single house developments to large commercial, retail and residential projects as well as and Environment Agency Main River diversions. Experience includes extensive hydrological, hydraulic and atmospheric dispersion modelling. Guy founded Water Environment Ltd with Tony Clothier in 2007.
